Yikes! Good advice. I had no idea about this.
One should take a peek at the drum on the new Warn Zeon Winch. It is not a fabricated steel drum like previous models.
The steel is more likely to crack than the aluminum?!
My point was a rebuttal to the incorrect assertion that drums will fail when used with synthetic line due to a higher compressive force. They exert the same amount of compressive force on the drum as a steel cable does due to both having similar amounts of stretch. If you needed proof, the later drums on Warn winches that come standard with synthetic line are not fabricated from a steel tube with side plates but are instead, die cast aluminum.
