When blown up, that is a black plastic grill insert. It either snaps in or is glued.

What is up with this front grille?
I came across this possible donor among my daily search of the upcoming salvage auctions, and cant figure out what happened to the leftmost vertical slot in this grille. It doesn't appear to be accident related, since there's no obvious distortion of the area, but what gives on the shape--see how its much bigger than the rest? maybe someone put something in my coffee this morning and I'm hallucinating?

Snaps in. I have the same thing on my Jeep, installed by previous owner. Mine are chrome colored plastic.
