Took a trip around the north end of the Great Salt Lake with the Gladiator.

Headed north towards Promontory Point. We would start on dirt roads soon after this.

Northrop Grumman recently bought out ATK (formerly Thiokol) and has a neat rocket garden that we like to stop at.

We started dropping down towards the lake.

Found an old homestead. Not sure how long this has been here.

74815

Lilly found it interesting.
74816

We continued down on Salt Wells road to the edge of the lake bed (which is mostly dry).
74817

Some old signage
74818

Some red plant life in the high salt content brine

Some wild flowers along the road

continuing along the edge of the lake towards Kelton UT (a ghost town)
74822

Found some rock formations

74824

We followed the old railroad tracks for a bit

The trail above the image of the sign is where the track used to lay.

We decided to drive towards Park Valley UT as we would pass by Kelton (and saw nothing, not even the cemetary).

It was a long haul over this portion

74827

Continuing a bit westward from Park Valley, we found a sign for "the Devils Playground) and made the turn.
74828

We spied an antenna on the mountain and started up

It was a typical switchback shelf road to the top

74832

The road got very narrow towards the very top so we turned around and headed back. Great views though.

I stopped to take a picture of the nav lat/long and thought the jeep was reading a little hot

74838

But that was with the key off...I'm sure it is not correct. As soon as I restarted it

We had a visitor tag along for a bit

Thanks for the virtual tour Don! I love that gauge display (and glad your coolant temp wasn't 400F!)
Me too John. The truck has a button for "Offroad +" performance mode. I was able to use it in 4 wheel drive. It makes the transmission hold gears to a much higher shift point. This worked well when descending the steep hill combined with using the manual shift feature. We saw a few folks in the BLM land target shooting. Will need to think about that next time.

Where is WayWest? This is tormenting me.
A quick look says his account was logged into 1 day ago. Hopefully everything is OK.

Glad you were able to get back, but I'm sure it was more exciting with the trackbar bracket taking a break. Now I have a suitable/capable rig for exploring, I'm hoping to be able to go see some of these places you post pictures about!
