TJ steering box 2005

Ok so the steering box started leaking it the input and the output shafts on my 2005 unlimited. I ordered a replace box. The box was back ordered, checked every other source, no one could get the box but they could take mine and have it rebuilt, cost any were from 150 to 350. Checked with PSC and they had a retrofit box. It’s the older 97 to 02 box with one mounting ear cut off and a new one welded on. And no the parts to rebuild it myself are not on the market.
It seems that everything but this one ear with work with the older GM box. In checking I bolted up the older box and yes this was so.

SO buy the PSC box, have mine rebuilt, ether way if the box failed again it was not going to be an easy fix. OR MOVE THE 3RD MOUNT IN THE FRAME. I’m moving the mounting hole.

I assume you are refering to these PSC boxes? If it were me, I'd go with the PSC. They are upgraded much more than a simple rebuild and are ready for hydro assist if you ever chose to go that route.

I have been running one on my 04 TJ for a little over three years now along with Hydo assist. No problems with my box what so ever. BTW, parts are avalible for the PSC boxes.

Yes I am and I wont ever go to the hydro assist, Yes you can rebuid them but you cant just walk in and buy a bolt in one off the shelf at any part place. I have installed the PSC on a few jeeps and its good stuff but its still not an off the shilf bolt in

There is a write up somewhere with plenty of pics on rebuilding the box with a Daimler Benz rebuild kit. Did I book mark it? Nope but, I have come across it 2x now. Looks pretty straight forward to me.

I dont want to have to rebuild it my self and I sure dont want to have to rebuild it on the trail some place my self. now the old standered box fits. in fact the box i rebuilt and used was from a 2000 era f car. very lite feel and less than 3 turn lock to lock
