OK I have a horrible squeeling sound coming from the Tranny (I think). It is very loud after the 25mph mark and is speed dependant. The more it sqeels at faster speeds. The is no leaking at the tranny and I see no debris or anything that could be rubbing to cause the noise. I am taking it to the Dealer on Tues morning. Anybody have any experience with this? It only makes the noise when the Rubi is moving, even if it is in nuetral. Please help!!! I will be on most of the night so if anyone needs more info PM me or post and I will reply quickly. Thanks in advance. I have a manual.

Sounds like the Drive shaft issue. I could hear mine all the way down to a slow roll though. If you have a grease gun I would shoot some in the shaft to see if that fixes it first. It took my dealer 2 days to grease that dang shaft and if I would have known that's all it was I would have fixed it myself.

Drive shaft

I was informed that the unit is sealed and that the cardan joint on the front driveshaft is pressed. This being the case, the joint is not serviceable so there is no nipple to squeeze grease into. The part is being warrantied by some dealers and not by others (from my search on other related websites). The squeeling sound is caused, I am told, by water and mud getting past the seal and creating a "dry" joint. DC Customer Assistance doesn't recognize this as a defective part and so far there are no related TSBs for this model year.

taking it to the dealer tomorrow, we'll see what they say. When I mentioned the problem he said DC has fixed that and the Rubi uses different parts so it may be something else. YOur typical dealer answer!

Warranty

Diddugtj: Post your experience with the dealership. I'm curious to know what they diagnose your problem as. Thanks.

Got the service done from the dealer. When I originally called I told them the problem and thay said they had to have a tech diagnose it and not go by my analysis. Whatever. They did and it was the front driveshaft problem so they had to order the part. Went in a week later and is working fine now. Too bad they wouldnt give me the original back I would love a free spare!!

Because they are not greasable many of the drive shafts are having problems. If mine does it I will ask for the dealer to put a greasable drive shaft in the front so I don't have future problems. Eventually the problem will come back. This happened to my sport (@about 60K miles) and I took it to a shop that works on driveshafts, they cut the end off and put a completely greasable unit on, cost $125. Never had any issues after that. It is bad judgement on DC's part to not put a greasable d shaft up front IMO. Brian

Front driveshaft problems

I had my front driveshaft replaced last week. Because they'd initially said that they wouldn't warranty it because there was mud on the joint, I refused to let them do the work until the regional rep was given the details and a decision was rendered at his level. I've not yet received a call from the dealership, my Rubi is running normal with the new part and my credit card has not been charged for the work. This problem was mentioned on other websites as well (ie. Jeeps Unlimited) and it's obvious that DC needs to issue a TSB or better yet: recall the part. Even the acting service manager said to me that he couldn't understand why DC didn't put a serviceable u-joint at the front driveshaft. It was also suggested to me that it was a matter of cost -- hence the reason you don't find many grease nipples on the newer Jeeps?

If it's no trouble, could I ask you to post a copy of your warranty work (minus the personal details)?

If your asking me it wasn't covered under warranty. I took it to a drive shaft specialist who charged me about $125 for the work. If it happens to my Rubi I will try to get my dealership to get me a greasable driveshaft. So far I haven't wheeled my Rubi much and the problem is definately from getting gunk from 4 wheelin. Still tho, DC knows we're gona wheel these things and it should be standard to put a nip on em. Just another piece of advice true jeepers could let jeep know about.

There really wasnt much to my warranty work if you are asking me. The initial service write up said general advisement front driveshaft. When the work was done it stated: replace frnt DS. In the price coulmn it was 0.00 warranty. And that is all. My tech said that the shaft would be sent back to DCX for analysis and possible improvements in the design, then he remarked that that just means it will sit in a warehouse until it is tossed. He is a pretty cool tech. Hope that answers your questions.

DigdugTJ:

Yeah, I had directed my post to you. Thanks for the info. I'm glad to see that it wasn't a case of "too much mud" on the joint  I couldn't believe it when they tried to use that as an excuse when I dealt with my dealership. I was hoping to get some instances of Canadian Rubicons experiencing this problem so that I could present it to the rep myself. Happy 'wheelin' :D
