I just learned recently that there are two axle ratio options. I thought I would open a thread for discussion.
The 4xe is super interesting. Really want to check one out.I'm pretty sure with the JK Rubicons the manual came in 4.10, auto was 3.73, auto with the tow package was 4.10.
Have you heard about the 4xe? 470 ft. lbs. of torque sounds like fun.
JK rubicon’s come with 32 BFG KM’s.My TJ came with 4.10 on 31’s and is now on 33’s like the engineers designed it. What size tires are they putting on now?
Also, at least for the dealerships local to me, they no longer regear, even factory options. I’m unsure if that’s how they all are now, or not. They used to regear any factory option.The 4xe is super interesting. Really want to check one out.
For the gears, I actually have the max tow package in my 2016 rubcion. But I have 3.73 gears.
Rubicon has 4.10 but it’s a manual.
want auto? Pay extra but get 3.73. You can pay extra for 4.10’s.
Or you can pay extra for max tow package but that will have 3.73’s, and you can choose to pay extra again for 4.10’s.
I have never bought a Jeep new. I was there when my dad bought his rubicon, and I recall (but could be incorrect) he had to go thru the above process.
My 2016 was used, 30k miles, and has “max tow”, at least according to build sheet, auto, and 3.73.
Entirely possible the original buyer specifically wanted 3.73’s and max tow, but I saw a lot of JK rubicon’s for sale when I was looking to get a used one a year ago and every one of them was 3.73. About a third of them had max tow and all had listed 3.73 gears, the ones I checked the build sheet on also confirmed mine wasn’t abnormal for my area at least.
Stupid though, I wish they all had 4.10’s.
My understanding is the rubicon’s, with the high top front flares, and the advantek Dana 44’s they are perfectly capable of 35’s stock with nothing else. Guys on forums seem to not be strengthening the front or rear axle, and the tubes for the front are stronger and the end forging are as well.Jeep claims you are going to be able to order 35's stock. Have you seen the promo video's regarding electrification. Park your Jeep, go for a hike the let it auto drive of road to come pick you up. Lie in the back with your girl while it off roads for you and you can look at the stars.
I consider the FAD to be a weak point that the JK axles do not have. Fortunately you can buy one piece axle shafts to remedy it if you are so inclined.The Advantek axle is stronger all around than the 44 used in the JK. I recently put 4.88's in one but I do not recommend it. The axle center section is smaller and as a consequence the ring and pinion are smaller. I would not go past 4.10 because I think if you shock loaded it at all there would be damage.
