I'm looking at replacing the 10 year old synthetic winch line on my Superwinch EPi 9000. Lots of selection out there. With a 9000 lb winch does it make any sense to get a line rated much more than about 12000 lb or so? I believe more is better but I don't want to pay for something if it's not needed. Thoughts??

I found this excellent tutorial after placing the OP. I think it answers most of my questions. http://www.masterpull.com/choose-the-correct-size-winch-line/

I currently run 80 ft of 3/8 line (17K rating best guess). It seems like if I go with 100 ft of the Masterpull Superline I get an increased rating (21K) and 20 more ft of line? Make sense?

Going larger makes a lot of sense. If you use a snatch block you will increase the winch pulling power, larger means you can get by with some abrasion to the line and larger is just easier to handle.
