The good news is I haven’t had a rear wheel seal leak since 2004. The bad news is the axle retaining bolts are fighting me.

They’re so close to the axle I can only get an open end wrench on them. What size wrench? I have a lot of wrenches, but even the one that fits doesn’t fit for the force needed.

I applied heat and PBlaster. I’m assuming there’s factory loctite and minor rust working against me.

I’m an idiot. I knew there was an access hole to the retaining nuts and when I was doing all the brake stuff in the back, I kept thinking the retainer bolts were accessed back there. Then my eyes saw the access hole in the front.

Axles are out.
Question - Should I replace the axle retaining nuts and bolt?

I was going to post something like that earlier. They come out from the brake side.

I replaced them years ago, but only cause I broke one. If they look stretched out, then yes. I just bought some grade 8 bolts and grinder down one shoulder of them to fit. Vs buying specific ones.

You could use Loctite or replace the nuts with nylock nuts.

I found out they’re special purpose nuts and a source for them. I think my bolts are probably fine, but I’m going to switch them out. It says drum brakes but they are also for the disk brake setup.
