Rancho 2” Sport lift question

Anyone running this lift on a 2 door JK? Searching the forum didn’t turn up any hits on this, probably because most go for a taller lift than 2”. I’m at the point of analysis paralysis, but for my needs have pretty much decided on this lift with the adjustable 9000XL shocks. I’ve read that this kit works with stock Rubicon wheels (I’m running 255/80/17 KM2’s), and fairly sure my wheels are 7.5x17. Almost bought the springs/shocks package when I read the Installation instructions stating: PRE-INSTALLATION WARNINGS and INSTRUCTIONS, WARNING: Only the following wheel / tire size may be used with this suspension system: 255/80R17 tires, 17” x 9” wheel with 4.5” of backspacing." Anyone actually running this kit with stock wheels, no wheel spacers and 255/80/17 KM2 with success?

Email Rancho and ask them specifically if it will work with your wheel tire combo. Then if it doesn't fit you will have documentation that will aid in returning the lift.

Thanks, good idea and will do, but also want feedback from those who have this lift running OEM wheels. I’m still waffling as to do this install myself or have a shop do it, but don’t even want to think about having to pull it off because it didn’t work. :surprise:

I heard back from Rancho and although they said my particular application hasn't been tested by them, it "should" work. I'm game to be a guinea pig on this as my 255/80/17 tires are the same width as stock, but an inch taller. My rationale is that they suggest the different backspacing due to increased width so I'm going to give it a go and hopefully won't need wheel spacers.

Success! No worries on running this lift with OEM wheels and 255/80/17 KM2's that I can tell. I did a flex test to the OEM bump stop (didn't install the Rancho supplied 2" one) and no rubbing, at least with wheels straight. I haven't got to "field" test this setup yet, but looks to be a winner. Greatly improved ride and handling, very happy with results. Some might argue it's not high enough, but with the undercarriage protection I have and running moderate trails, I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with this rig.

Find a large rock (or forklift or whatever) and get a front tire up on it as much as possible to check for clearances.
Thanks John. I did this, but didn’t want to spew falsehoods that this tire/wheel/lift combo works for sure before actually getting out and wheeling it. In this pic, I was less than 1/4” from touching the front OEM bumpstop and nothing was touching the tires. In fact, my rear tire used to be “ever so slightly into the inner fender” problem is gone! I have a good 2” clearance in the back at that position, so although I’m very confident this combo is a winner, final judgement is reserved until Moab. At least that’s what I’m telling the wife, in that we owe it to the forum to test it out. ;).




I should add that I ended up doing the install myself, with some assistance from my son whom I “schooled” as we did the job. Lots of satisfaction (and Advil) was the result.

Right, and we'll want pictures! The more or less ultimate suspension test is to stuff a front tire as much as possible with the opposite side rear tire fully stuffed. After a shop 4-linked my rear axle with a RockJock 60 (Rockwerx in Montrose, CO), we went to a nearby area and ran a fairly difficult trail and when I was fully flexed out, he checked out the suspension. (Worked perfectly.)

I’m looking at the same rancho 2” lift for my 2016 2d rubi. Have you been happy with the lift? Where have you run into limitations? Did you ever go larger than 33” tires on this lift and how did that work?

Sorry for the BLTN (better late than never) response. Yes, still happy with the Rancho 2” lift. We don’t run really difficult trails so the definition of limitations are subjective at best. If it helps, we ran Hell’s Revenge without dragging any hard parts. Having said that, I crawl real slow and keep the suspension loaded (no fast let downs) so while we take forever to finish sections, we usually leave with all the parts we started with. Tires are still 33” and don’t anticipate going bigger as it would necessitate a gearing change. HTH.
