Some of the old posts on the forum allow me to see photos, but even some of my own posts don't. The photos used to just be visible in the post but now they have thumbnails. When I click on the thumbnail icon in a post I get:

A few issues with the forum of late? Recently I could not log back in, and multiple attempts failed. I finally had to change my password, but got back in today...

There's something going on with viewing images using an Apple product, I'll let the support people know about this issue.

For security there's been two changes in the last xx months. One is that you must use the https in your browser which I'm sure everybody figured out by now and the other change was passwords are expiring after 12 months. I just had to change mine last week.

I just found that I can't view pictures either. When I open a post that says "Attached Thumbnails" I click on it I get nothing. It appears that if an actual picture is on the post I can see that. Using Windows 8.1. Never had this problem in the past.

Another problem or change I notice this week besides no picture to attached thumbnails on this forum.

"Your Notifications" that shows up on the top right of the screen has changed. Before when I am notified that I have "likes," for instance, and click on it, I see what post got the notification. Not anymore. Now a click on new likes received just goes to my profile screen. Can't find the old list of posts that got notifications anymore. And the likes number increases but can't make it go back to zero anymore.

Something has been changed to the forum programing in the last couple of weeks!

Work in progress

The word from the support folks about the viewing images problem is they are working on the issue. Recently all of the forums were migrated to cloud-based servers (cloud "computing" is very popular nowadays) and this is the reason for this image issue and I suspect other odd problems as well.

Our support folks are quite apologetic about the problems so please be patient while they work through this, I'll keep this thread updated whenever I get a status report.

It also appears that I can't access "TOOLS". I was able to yesterday after many tries but not at all today. Also just this instant discover I can't post using "QUICK REPLY", so needed to go to "ADVANCED". BTW yesterday is when I was looking for an old post and found they appear to only go back to 2016. Maybe all this is related somehow (?)

I think there are several issues that have happened since the forum was moved to the cloud and when they went to SSL (https) which encrypts all browser sessions.

Just hang loose, I'm following up with our support people (who interact with the tech people). So we're third down in the food chain and I have to rely on support for trouble resolution. They have been fairly responsive in the past but I suspect they are chasing a bunch of migration issues with vBulletin and cloud computing.

Well, I got an answer and it sucks - big time (don't shoot the messenger):

"What seems to be going on is a reflection of the site now having https. The issue largely depends on what browser is used to access the site. When accessing the forum with browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera, only images hosted on sites with https will be shown. When using browsers such as IE or Edge, non-https content may be shown. This is happening because Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera are being more strict about their security protocols, and therefor offer a more secure user experience. Eventually, all hosting sites will need to add https as more and more sites are going to require it, so it's only a matter of time before the non-https hosted images that are on the site become visible again through all browsers. We understand that this might be frustrating to members whose content is no longer showing up through certain browsers but unfortunately this is beyond our control."

I highlighted the essence of the situation. I also disagree with the statement that's it's only a matter of time before non-https hosted image sites make the switch. Some might never switch if they are smaller players. I have hundreds of images on my personal website and I have no plans to switch to SSL.

So, I think this is the way it will be. I expressed the appropriate (but polite) outrage disappointment. When I get a chance, I need to catalog the other issues you guys are having which might (or might not) be related to this SSL switch.

If I understand you correctly John, if we are using IE we should be able to see the photos? I use IE here at home, can't see most of them anymore.

That's what I understood. Try Microsoft's Edge browser.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this issue since I for one, don't have any problems viewing images. The more I think about it, the more I think the explanation is incomplete or is only part of the problem.

Sad how it all worked before they updated it to a cloud based system............... But now its the users fault for not having the correct browser, Sad times.

Warning on coming rant

I think it is important and required to keep up the messaging on the computer problems as there have been no fix yet:mad:

I still can't see pics and the notifications page for likes is missing. Probably more items but that's what I've experienced so far. :crying:

I'm not a computer expert but did have a job as a local network manager back in the dos era. So feel I have some working knowledge on how these systems work.

My experience is, when systems went to internet networks the managing job went to a full time computer personal. Problem was they would make changes on site or remotly and not do a thorough test. Then we would have to wait days or weeks to get our system back to working correctly and they never seemed concerned in spite of our exasperation.

It did help if we were on good and friendly terms with a tech as we got a better response to pleas for help. Heaven help us if we had a tech mad at us for bugging them. That was a standard we worked under for many years. De'ja vu :serious:
