Finally got our TJ running after a year down. I still need a new u-joint for the front driveshaft, but that didn't prevent me from taking out of the garage. I still need to get the "evolution" thread up to date.

Panamint Range from Panamint Valley near Ballarat.

BLM finally fixed where the bridge was on South Park so we ran up South Park and then back down Pleasant Canyon.
Nice pics Jes... Hairy trail even with the new bridge. For those that haven't done this trail, miners carved out a shelf trail on a rock cliff face, originally for mules. Widen just enough to get a by... It's a "do or die!"

Great place with pioneer history, magnificent views, and thrilling trails.

Anyone ever drove shelf road from Canon City to Cripple Creek Colorado? I never thought of it as anything serious but it looks similar to the above but actually more scenic.
I've drove it several times with my GMC Jimmy when I was stationed in Co Springs and once with my Jeep when we were visiting the Springs.

Drove it in the early eighties. Gorgeous country. Visited Cripple Creek a few years ago and it is no longer the same. While the original store fronts remain, the interiors have been gutted and are all casino now.

While good for the locals in that it brought them jobs, we have lost a bit of living history of the west.

As part of the deal the casino improved the water system, built a school and a nice visitor center/museum. Wild donkeys still roam the streets.

Actually that shelf road on South Park is not that bad(good?), I will admit I was sweating a bit when I got to the top. I had run that trail many times but this was only the second time in a rig with doors so it was a little more intense(I prefer no doors). The spot that really gets you is the turn up the ledge at the top.

Same guy in his XJ in 2011, a week before the trail was closed...

Coming down in 2009...

From the driver's seat in my XJ...

Anyway, super fun trail with lots of history and lots to see.

Post 1395 looks like "Chicken Rock" on the South Park Jeep Trail. Just got back a few weeks ago from doing that loop from Ballarat to South Park to Pleasant Canyon with jeff_in_rc and a friend of his. Great scenery, challenging trail, (not a place for someone with a fear of heights) and good people. Had a blast!!!!!
