In the shop manual on a trouble shooting step it says...

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the PCM harness connectors.

The manual doesn't mess around and would tell you to disconnect the battery if it was needed, but I thought I would run this by you.

Just do what I'm told right?

I've successfully unplugged the PCM cables with the battery still connected. Either way should work fine.
When I had my PCM woes I did this also without issue. The only way I found to reset the PCM was to leave it unplugged over night.
