New Power Plant available in 2012, Is it true this time???

It looks like the Jeep Wrangler family will be the next Chrysler bloodline to benefit from the company's excellent new Pentastar V6. Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler CEO, broke the news during the company's third-quarter financial announcement. The new powerplant will likely pack somewhere between 283 and 305 horsepower depending on the tune, and will make for a substantial bump in grunt over the current 202-pony 3.8-liter V6 currently available in the Wrangler.

Still, it will be a good long while before buyers can sink their teeth into the new engine. Marchionne made it clear that the Pentastar won't be available under the Wrangler hood until the 2012 model year.

I wish Jeep would give a real reason behind why they can't use the CRD diesel in the Wrangler beside it can't pass emissions.... They use it in the Cherokee & Liberty with no problems. Or how about the 5.7HEMI, with all the companies making bolt-in installation for them & passing emissions! I remember reading an article from Chrysler before the 2011 interior was released saying "This is what the Jeep owners wanted". All I could do was laugh and think "Nope, that's not what we want"!
Since the debut of the wrangler, jeep has decided to follow Toyota's lead and make cool but always underpowered 4x4s (think fjs and 4runners, the "enthusiast" ones).

I would love to see the V8 make a return, as well as a diesel.
Won't they need to increase MPG dramatically when the new fed regulations kick in? Will this new engine help with that?
Yep the Pentastar is coming. As I mentioned in another thread, I wonder if Mopar will release a kit to retro fit it in a TJ. There was a very specific reason for no Hemi.

Emissions / Safety most likely... Thank Ralph Nader
