Melmo's Mess 2011

In unusual fashion, I am starting a build thread at the point the project is almost complete. Not really sure why, but this year I haven't had much motivation to post all the pictures and writeups as I went. Actualy I still haven't uploaded this year's pictures, but perhaps when it is completed in a week or two I will be more motivated to post everything up.

Some of you are aware of the build already simply because you have spoken up about wanting the take-off items, but for those who aren't I'll just tease you with the text of the build until I get the pics uploaded :D

As a starting point, here is a link to last year's project http://www.rubiconownersforum.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=68283&hilit

As planned last year, this year's build includes the following:

Dynatrac Pro-Rock Rear
Dynatrac Pro-Rock Front
RCV Performance Front Shafts - *plus factory tour* (thanks Chris and Kraig! more pics and details later in the writeup)
5:38 gears F&R
ARB's F&R
PSC Extreme Duty Hydro assist steering, cooler & ram
Atlas Rubi Crawler gear reduction box 2:72:1 + 4:1 OEM Rubi T-Case
Triple rate kit for the FOA coilovers
40 x 13.50 x 17 Nitto Mud Grapplers (if I can ever find a set anyway - thanks to all those that are helping in the search!)

A big thanks to David @ Northridge for his help in putting all together. Although I understand that my axles being mistakenly shipped to him instead of direct to me maybe responsible for another axle sale for Northridge, so that might be enough thanks for David, well that and all that green stuff I sent out that way this year :D

Anyway, more details and pics to follow "soon"

You going to be ready in time for a trip to the Hammers? :lildevil:
An ROF hammers trip might be cool. I know you and Chris are ready but how about Fledge, Dale and Jonalin? I'll have to check with my "life partner" Mike and see if he is up for it :D

The one nagging problem I have had ever since the rebuild last year is, what are those of you on coilovers doing to keep them from squeaking? Grease is bad because it collects so much dirt, but nothing else really seems to work very well. I have been using a dry film teflon spray but it doesn't seem to last much past the trail head either.

Any ideas?
Silicon spray maybe?

Would love to do an ROF hammers with fledge... but can't do it these days with the little one... maybe when he's a little older we can do a long distance trip with some father/son wheeling! Moab and around CO is probably the farthest I'll be going for a while.... but you never know!! :lildevil:
I put a light coat of anti seize on my FOAs. Does not seem to collect to much grime, but there is grime.

Never noticed our necked down, LCAs. Some clearance issues?

I do like the new axles, thinking I need some and 40s as well.
Looks really good!! Nice and tight, I like it. does your pitman arm contact the tie rod at all when the drivers side is tucked?

Thanks!

And no, it just clears by about 1/4" to 1/2" at full stuff. Youcan see it (although not at the best angle) in the 11th picture. That issue was the original reason for the GenRight twisted pitman arm last year though.
Nice pics....can we see some of your jeep now? :lildevil:
very very nice
not sure on the CO'S my fox's don't make a sound

yes.
Looks good!!!

Did you have to build all the brackets, or did the axle come with everything? The sway bar brackets look nice.

It looks like the knuckles keep the ackerman angle in check. I like the exhaust wrap. It will keep the air lines from blowing up. The radiator is a PITA for steering components. How much body lift are you running?

Did you loose any wheelbase on the rear axle?
just out of curiosity why did you spend the coin on custom axles and put wheel spacers on ?
or did you get a deal on a used set
still nice regardless
