My 2006 Rubicon LJ has about 60,000 miles and is in good shape but I have lost my tolerance for the muffler. It has baffles inside that must have let loose and it has been like this for many years. It rattles sometimes to my annoyance. When I have looked I have never seen a stock one available and most of the replacement shorter ones seem to be louder. Can someone tell me the best replacement for the muffler or the whole exhasut if that is what I need?

I had the muffler replaced on my old LJ at a 4x4 shop but I don't remember the brand of the replacement. It was one of the 'high flow' (loud) aftermarket mufflers. No idea if an OEM replacement is available. I would avoid the chain muffler shops like the plague and use a local 4x4 shop (ideally) or a trusted mechanic.

I had a small muffler with a turn-down right after the skid plate. When the baffles inside that went, it was basically a straight pipe (very loud). I then went with the Banks system. It was an easy install. I did it in the driveway in about two hours. It has a pleasant chortle type of sound which I like. The components are still in good shape (tailpipe) after 4 years now.

Thanks. Hoping for a quiet one.

I've always had good success with Magnaflow, and I like the sound.

It would probably be a good idea to replace the rest of the cat back portion with that, and a reputable shop can do that.
Thanks. Used a two chamber on hot rod Nova with a big block but to loud. Chnged to 3 chamber but still loud. The 502 big block had a solid roller cam with Torque Tube 3 inch pipes. At least big V8's sound cool. Little straight sixes are different. Hope it sounds like a stock one.

I am sure replacing the whole thing is good advise. Was hoping there was some standard goto quiet muffler. Thanks

I have a banks monster. It is a little louder than stock but the sound is simply fantastic. i receive regular compliments on it. It matches the straight-6 nicely.

I have used a spintech in the past, much smaller if you have a LA, space is limited. Louder than stock but much quieter than a flowmaster.
