Builders installed crappy wire shelving system in a closet we use as a pantry. Total shelf space, 16.33 sq ft. I built a temporary free standing shelf in there to use the past couple years increasing storage to 26.23 sq ft.
I finally got around to building pantry shelves. Birch plywood shelves with a solid Hemlock horizontal support front and back. Fronts of shelves are set into dados on the verticals that are solid Hemlock. The rest is all trimmed out with Hemlock to match the rest of the natural wood in our house. Six shelves 79" wide, 15" deep... Total shelf space now... 49.38 sq ft.

In a couple of the pics you can see the in-wall spice shelves I made a year-and-a-half ago:wink2:

Good job Guy!! That really looks sharp, I like your design and choice of wood. Wire shelving like you replaced is really ugly and not that functional.
