Jeffro06's Rubi

179481 Views 1108 Replies 69 Participants Last post by  jeffro06
I just bought my 2006 Rubi last Saturday. It's a Canadian model, 27,800 miles, automatic, a/c, 6-disc CD, hardtop. I had a 95 YJ, but sold it soon after getting the Rubicon.

After removing the milk jugs.

Hopefully this will turn into a build thread in the not so distant future. :)

I'm itching to start ordering Jeep parts, but I have to wait to see if Kevin moves his shop or not, so it's probably going to be a few more weeks before I can start ordering. Every time I look outside and see my Jeep just sitting there, it saddens me. 😞

The plan is to get my Rubi to Kevin's shop this weekend. If that happens things will start to progress, throughout the winter. The plan is to be able to do the Rubicon Trail next year.

Tomorrow my Jeep is headed to Kevin's shop, if all goes as planned. Kevin is bringing me a loaner, his LJ. Once my Jeep is there the axles are coming off, and ARB's are going in, front and rear. I will have a perfectly good front stock locker and stock air pumps for sale in the not-so-distant future.

The control arms will be off too, so they will get rebuilt, or replaced, whichever is needed. The control arm brackets will get replaced as well.

I'm going to do new PRP daily driver seats (non-reclining) as well.

We figure it'd be a good time to paint the frame and the underside of the body as well. Odds are my Jeep is going to be in the shop until next spring, but if all goes well, it'll be on the Rubicon Trail soon after its completion.

Fingers crossed.

Well, my Rubicon made it to Kevin's shop in Indiana. I ended up locking the rear locker and driving it to LaSalle-Peru to meet Kevin, as he was going there to meet some friends. Since the limited slip was no longer being used there was no noises while turning, other than the occasional tire chirp. It'll still be a few weeks before the planets align, and we start to work on it. I brought Kevin's LJ home for ransom; I mean as a loaner.

I'll try to keep you updated on the progress, in a timely manner....lol.

Kevin is ordering all the ARB bits a pieces needed to get the Rubi mobile once again.

He keeps trying to talk me into a stretch as well. It would be cool to do, but I'm not sure it'll happen. I guess we shall see. I have a hard cap on my budget.

Or just a silly mock up?

Not sure the 3.6L is enough of a change over the reliable 4.0L, but the 8-speed auto is very nice

His business, Axis Industries, does swaps for several different engine types, such as Cummins and Hell Cats, He basically sells some of them as kits, plug and play. This Rubicon is an R&D project.

Tire Wheel Snow Vehicle Plant

Kevin's Jeep, which is from Hawaii, is "enjoying" the fresh snow. I have no idea what my Jeep is doing.

Retired life and life without my Jeep has brought on another hobby, that also empties every pocket. I started to learn how to play 6 months ago. Just doing online learning. It's fun. My plans are to perform at a Walmart entrance, with my tip bucket, sometime this summer.

The first one, at the end of August, pretty cheap, with a 5 watt amp. That amp was soon replaced with the Fender seen here. It's a Sawtooth "Strat" wannabe.

There was a 50% off Black Friday sale, and it was my birthday, so I upgraded. It's a Sawtooth Heritage "Les Paul" wannabe.

This Epiphone Les Paul 60's Standard arrived a couple of weeks ago....just because....lol.

Boring winters can get expensive.
