I was running a new backup camera for the new stereo and while tapping the reverse light and thinking about power, I saw that there is the 6pin hardtop connector in the back under the carpet. Anyone use the circuits attached to those wires in any creative ways?
my 03 was also pre-wired for the automatic lighted compass rear view mirror when I went to install it, a couple of years after purchasing the jeep. Including the air temperature sensor(came with the mirror), installed in front of the radiator.
Just looked at the wiring diagram. It appears to come from a 40 Amp fused source at the PDM. Then a 12 gauge wire run through the Defroster Relay. So the wire itself may be good for some things.
The control of it may be the next issue. You could just short out the leads in the Relay in the PDC. That would leave you with an indicator on all the time in the instrument cluster. Or if you wanted to use it like the defroster its self, then it would only run for a set amount of time.
The tables state that 10 feet of 12 gauge are good for 22 amp draw with 3% loss or 20 feet @ 11 amps. To me that is a constant draw, vs the short term run that the defroster would have run at, like 5 minutes or so and could draw more for less time. Thinking that is why they can run more power for a shorter period of time. I am not totally up on that wire size duration amp draw calculation...
I have not used them, but they could be used. The use case and modifications may not easier than just running a dedicated wire...
I have been doing lots of wire use and load calculations as of late...
That was one of my thoughts was if I could tap power for my reverse camera instead of off the reverse light wire I connected it into. Did you override the timer like inline6 stated above?
