Has a dealer tried to buy your jeep?

I think this is just another sales gimmick. But twice in one week I have gotten these letters/sales promotions where a dealer is wanting to buy my jeep. Now I didn't think much about it when I received the first one since it is from the dealer I bought the jeep from. But then i got a second one from a Ford dealer which I have never done buisness with and it just makes me wonder WTH!

This is from the dealer the Jeep was bought new from;

Freedom Dodge Chrysler Jeep has been designated as a site to conduct a special test pricing and financing event. Your 2004 Jeep Wrangler qualifies you for this private sale.
We are in desperate need of acquiring several pre-owned vehicles by the end of this week in order to fulfill special vehicle requests. As the owner of a high demand 2004 Jeep Wrangler, we want to exchange your vehicle for a brand new Dodge Chrysler Jeep. We have been authorized to buy back your 2004 Jeep Wrangler for up to 121% of the current market value! Don't worry - if you still owe on your current vehicle, we will pay it off. If you're leasing your vehicle, we'll help you terminate the lease with no penalties.

In addition, you will recieve all factory incentives including rebates up to $9,000 on brand new Dodge Chrysler Jeep vehicles or finance rates as low as 0.0% APR with your good credit. Your newmpaymemt may actually be the same or even lower than your current payment even with no money changing hands....
And the dealer that I have never done buisness with;

I wanted to send you this note because we have had several requests for your 2004 Jeep. We are in dire need of quality pre-owned Jeeps. As a manager, I wanted to let you know that we have been able to reduce payments for several customers and I think I will be able to do the same for you. Especially with 0% financing availible for up to 72 months WAC, no payments for 90 days, factory rebates and incentives up to $6,000 or I will cut you a check for up to $6,000...
SOOO...
1. What new ploy of :bs: is this?
2. The Jeep is paid for, and I'm not interested...
3. Reckon this is cause dealers are hurting for certain models/brands, perhaps due to cash for clunkers?
4. How did a ford dealer even have knowledge of what I own?

Just curious if you all have seen this before or know what it is all about.

I get them all the time, 121% of the market value is about 90k... isn't it :D

IF our jeeps are in such high demand, I believe a premium price is in order :lildevil:
If you can actually sell your ride for a reasonable to you price then go for it, you can always get newer, bigger, better. However, if your Jeep has sentimental value, that's tough to replace.

If someone came along and offered to buy something off of me for a reasonable price then what the heck, but if its your dream car I don't know if I would.

But damn those new 11+ JKs are sweet.... get an engine with some power under those hoods and I'd consider it.

Bite your tongue. As a future buyer I believe the rink's should be cheap. Once I'm back in the saddle the price can go off the charts. LOL
I get them for all our cars ... jeep, mazda, gm, doesn't seem to make a difference. They just want to get you to come in and they figure that's the only way they can make money off of you.

That's about what I figured! Nice strategy though, makes you feel like you actually have something desirable. Not often a dealer makes you feel that way with something so I figured it must be :bs:

But im not looking to sell and I don't think the girlfriend could handle abother build up from scratch. Course I could ditch the girlfriend :lildevil:
It is a scam to have you buy a new car from them.
I've received 2 kinds. One stating there are buyers looking for "your" model. Another more along the lines of "there isn't a better time to trade in your vehicle" offering top dollar and incentives only to have numerous disclaimers associated with it.

Have you noticed any correlation between the letter and a dealership you may have had service done with?

Yea Freedom is where the Jeep was bought by me brand new. Now Crossroads Ford... I don't know where the hell that came from! Never bought from them or serviced anything with them.
i dunno...my local jeep dealer has a big dry erase board in the service department that says some thing along the lines of - "top used models we are looking for" and lists out the top 5 vehicles they are hoping to get people to trade. #1 is always "wrangler" and #2-5 vary, but it is not always chrysler products. Wranglers just hold their value well and dealers know they can always move them, and charge top dollar for them. and they appeal to just about all walks of life. so it doesnt suprise me that a ford dealer somehow got a list of vehicles owned by their local consumer market and is interested in buying your jeep.

but i do get that crap in the mail all the time too.
I got one for my jeep from the dealer, then I got another one from the gmc dealer for my truck, just a ploy to get you to come in and trade yours in for another one and stick it to you on both ends of the deal.

LMAO .. why do I get the feeling that's not entirely a joke either :D
Kinda like getting warranty expiration notices for vehicles I don't even own anymore.

EXACTLY!

I get them all the time too, for all three of my vehicles. They usually say something to the effect of "your vehicle is in very high demand on the used market, and we have a shortage of them, we'd like to buy yours."

Seems like someone is violating my privacy by sharing out my name, address, what vehicles I own, and providing it to these "marketing agencies" that send out these "vehicle buy back letters" which is total :bs:

/rant off
I got one too with a FREE turkey. Not sure if the turkey is for me or gonna be me.
I get them all the time for my Dodge Ram... offering me 30% lower than blue book. I shake my head, insulted that the dealership thinks I'm that gullible and makes me more determined to refuse to do business with them (yeah, I think sneaky marketing should actually bring in less business for businesses). There are no deals that come in the mail like this. Don't buy huge swaths of cheap land sold by Erik Estrada either. Any real deals are ones you have to go hunt and make for yourself (or trick the system... like my friend does with wine clubs).

Sounds like there is a good story behind this!

x2 you got my interest! :cheesy:
My friend looked up the WSJ Wine club which gives a new member discount of like 50%... then he looked up company that contracts with WSJ Wine club and found they contract with other clubs. With each club you join you get new member discount. Then he cancels after first shipment. I'm on the road so canny get name of company... But I'm sure some googling will bring it up.
