I just read a post about a bad experience with GR, so I decided to go ahead and post up my current experience with GR.. I wasn't sure if I should post this under the TJ or JK vendors forum, but decided here would be fine..
before I finished my TJ 1 Ton Swap, I decided I wanted to carry my spare on the jeep.. so I went to GR and ordered their swingout carrier made for a TJ.. when I finished my TJ, I ended up needing to do a comp cut to make the 42" pitbull rockers work.. I debated whether I should modify the GR cage to a drop down tire carrier or try to sell it.. then I started doing some reading and saw that the cage is the same whether you have a TJ or a JK.. I just happen to have a JKU that I do a few upgrades to here and there.. I contacted GR and they told me to send back the TJ mounts and they would send me the JK mounts to make the tire carrier work.. at the end of the day, I am getting a better tire carrier than I need for my JKU and still need to figure out what i'm going to do about carrying a spare on my TJ, but they helped me out big time and I am happy that they are willing to do this for me.. I spent $13 to ship back the TJ pieces on yesterday and will look forward to receiving the JK pieces so I can go ahead and install the tire carrier.. I don't plan to run bigger than a 37" tire on the JKU after I install my rubicon axles under it, but at least I am able to make the GR tire carrier work.. I made 1 phone call on Monday, we discussed what I should do, they called me back with a plan, and I did my part on Tuesday to get the plan started.. if anything negative happens from here, I will update, but as of now, it appears this is going to be an easy swap..

how this started, my wife bought me some new evo rear corners and I was looking at what I would need to do when I install them.. I was looking at possibly welding some tabs to the passenger corner to allow me to use the carrier.. I was wondering if I could make the TJ body mounts work.. but when I read that the only difference is the mounts, I decided to contact GR and discuss it with them.. hopefully i'll have the new pieces by next week so I can finish the install..

I stopped carrying a spare about two years ago, too much weight behind the rear axle. Keep us posted how it goes with GenRight. You can always reach out to them on their Facebook page.

I really want to keep my spare on my since I won't be wheelin' with many people who will have one I can borrow from their jeep anymore.. for the most part, it wouldn't matter if I have it or not, but when I go to moab next year, I wanna make sure I am ready for anything.. I may end up just runnin' it on the jeep when I am somewhere that could make it difficult to get my spare to..

I carry two tire repair kits, one from ARB and a truck tire repair kit. Even if I can get a tire to hold 5 psi that would be enough to get to a trailhead (I have beadlocks.)

update, genright shipped my JK hinges this week and I also had an issue with a fuel filler kit I purchased from them.. I called them and they told me they had a bad batch made.. they immediately sent me a new one when they saw my order was made during that time of the bad ones.. genright is a great company to deal with and they do make quality parts..
