Genright Safari tank - you like it?

Those of you who have been running the Genright Safari gas tank, how are you liking it now that you've had it for awhile?

It's been on my list for a long time. Starting to think about it again, now that it's the time of year I do a lot of long range forays and use my jerry cans often.

Anyway... I know at least a few of you have been using this tank for some time now. I'm very interested in any and all thought and opinions.

I had one on my TJ
it was awesome having the extra fuel
if I had a TJ or LJ I would get one again
I think he's referring to the 31gal tank, mac...

I had it... REALLY liked the extra fuel. When gauge read empty, there was about four gallons left...

The only drawback, IMO, is the extra hang down in the back... mostly coming off of steep ledges.

Besides that, I think the tank is great.
I really like my tank, but as kidmugg points out, it does drag off of steep ledges. Mine has taken a big beating more than once and has held up well. I do wish I could tuck it more. I'm wondering if something custom could be done to raise it up. I don't remember if there was any clearance above it or not.

If you daily driving your Jeep then the extra capacity really comes in handy. I don't DD mine anymore, but it is nice not having to carry a gas can on the trails.
Steve578, I did tuck mine up... had a custom shop do it for me. I think it gained an extra couple of inches at most. Even then it would become a landing pad coming off a shelf. Held up great.

I think this tank is ideally suited for expidition type wheeling. I rock-crawl mostly these days (all I have time for, if i'm lucky) so I've sold off my expo stuff, including the tank.

Did Rokmen weld your cross member back in? I think I still have mine in case I ever wanted to go back.
I've got the Rokmen skid now, and come down on it once in awhile. I guess I'd just have to get used to coming down on the tank a lot more often, if I do the Safari.

Still undecided. Money talking, more than anything. I could sell my Jeeperman jerry can holders and my Rokmen tank skid to offset the cost some though. Sure would be nice getting all that weight off my swing out and down low. Not to mention, not having to dick around with Jerry cans anymore.

Anyone want to make it easy on me and buy my Jeeperman jerry can holders and my Rokmen skid?

Your Rokmen skid will sell fast. I had mine on my local club's sight for only a few hours before someone snatched it up.
I love mine. It does not bother me that it drags from time to time. I have never been hung up on it so if it drags a little it does not matter. I can give one example of how much I love this tank. If I was building an LJ from scratch again, I would install the safari tank before I did any thing else.

I had all my rear crossmembers cut and my frame shortened at the rear when I had my Safari tank combo with the hanson bumper. Rokmen has to do a lot of rebuilding with the new bumper, crossmember and frame.
I love my safari tank. Would do it again in a heart beat.
Another question for you guys, if you don't mind?

Reading the old threads, some of you guys who were first to get these tanks talk about a reinforcement plate for the rear crossmember. It sounds like it shipped separately, and late, but maybe it was even included with the tank purchase, on the first batch of tanks?

Do you really feel the reinforcement plate is needed? Have any of you installed the Safari tank without it?

I did ask Genright on the phone whether I needed the plate or not and the guy basically let me know "you're a dumb ass for even asking me that...". He didn't want to talk to me about anyhing I asked, just wanted to get rid of me and get off the phone. Almost enough to change my mind about even wanting this tank, but, ehhh, I still want it... So, I'm asking you guys that have been living with this setup.

The plate did come with the purchase of the original batch but I did not use it due to modifying the rear frame. I think it's a thing idea to have.
I installed mine and it did come with the tank. I actually did the reinforcement plate and frame tie-in brackets. My brother has not installed his and has not had any issues. Like Kidmugg said it is a nice to have item, but not needed.
I don't have the reinforcement plate. I do have frame tie-ins that came with my Shrockworks bumper.
I have had the tank for over a year and I have had no problems. It is nice not to have to carry gas cans. On the reinforcement plate I did not install it when I first put the tank in and after a run over the Rubicon I noticed the bottom lip of the rear crossmember was starting to bend upward so I installed the reinforcement plate and it and looks likes it holding up well.
I wish we could do another group buy of 10 like when this was introduced as I have been wanting one also.
