I've had to repair the vacuum line that passes through the firewall several times. Until now I've spliced the line with shrink tube. This has worked well, but the shrink tube fails over time. My controls were defaulting to defrost. I knew my repair had failed yet again.

My finger is holding the broken end of the vacuum line that passes through the firewall. When it wasn't broken it was attached to the white check valve just above. Off my thumb you see the old vacuum line series. I replaced this at this time and got the idea for the repair.

Here's the broken end that I was previously splicing with shrink tube. In the past it has torn. This time it collapsed.

I pulled the broken end out of the nipple.

Taking my old vacuum line set, I cut a small length of it that I thought would allow a bend with less stress. One end had the flaring.

That nipple attaches to the check valve.
Solution15.jpg

Cut the length to allow proper bend.

Next I grabbed these vacuum line caps I had laying around and had never used.

Choosing a size.

Cutting the dead end off.

Pushing the broken vacuum ends together. DONE and much more confident this will last.
