From a security monitoring organization:

"...We’re publishing this as an emergency bulletin for our customers and the larger web community. A few hours ago a zero day vulnerability emerged in the Tor browser bundle and the Firefox web browser. Currently it exploits Windows systems with a high success rate and affects Firefox versions 41 to 50 and the current version of the Tor Browser Bundle which contains Firefox 45 ESR."

What to do:
FF users click on Help> About Firefox> Check for updates (or whatever it says) or click on Restart, follow the progress until you are on FF version 50.0.2 (or until it says you are up to date)

Thunderbird users:
Click on Help> About Thunderbird> follow the prompts like above until you are on Thunderbird version 45.5.1 (or until it says you are up to date)

JC I don't have access to the entire article but I hopefully assume that it doesn't affect I.E., Safari, or Chrome??
Correct, it was an exploit just for T-Bird and Firefox. It's always a good idea to keep your system and all apps updated though.

Here's a free security checkup (BeLarc Advisor) that will look for out of date apps and provide a 'health' report. I've used it before - good utility.

Edit: the Vertiscope team brought this vulnerability to our attention, we appreciate the head's up from them

Thanks to johncanfield for posting this.

As for FireFox itself, they provided a fix in an update approx 4 hours after the news hit, so they were right on point.

If you are not set to auto-update, please follow the instructions in the OP to get updated.

Thanks,
- JB
