The engine installed to replace the one that died in the the above thread lived 264 miles.

The Mayhem:

At about 214 miles or so (4th time driving it after getting the new engine), a catastrophic event occurred which resulted in the 2 of the 3 mounting bosses fracturing, as seen in the picture below: ( limped it home 50 miles or so)

The engine isn't dead. It runs just fine, it just won't bolt in to a rig at the moment.

Had I known about the M.O.R.E. HD engine mounts earlier, I could probably have used them to patch this block back in to usable status.

I am going to get them... Thanks Inline6 for showing them to me. :D I heard about them the day the shop ordered a new long block.

I would have gotten them installed on the latest new motor (that got installed last week), but the new motor arrived the day after they ordered it, and little did I know, they had started bolting accessories to it that afternoon! They were way too efficient. When I called the shop the morning after hearing about these mounts, the techs were already dropping the new motor in place.

Here's the mounts that Inline6 showed me:

I'm a hair confused. What caused it to crack the block where the OE mounts bolt? I say screw that your due yet another block!!! I know that is a big PITA, but geez man it shouldn't do that!

Third engine (2nd replacement) is already installed. It went in last Friday.

I've driven it a few times even though the Jeep still isn't technically back in my possession yet.

The failure had nothing to do with the block itself, or installation.

So that leaves a problem with the connecting pieces..

A) Frame
B) Transmission
C) Driver
D) 2 or more above
I've read about this situation before and knew about the mounts but, can't comprehend the cause of the failures. Would love to know exactly what was transpiring at the moment of the failure. I know with 260 miles on the ticker, no one was being silly. Maybe fractures not discovered in the donor carcass?
I too wonder what made the mount bosses do that
I wonder about the molding/casting for the late 04-06 model 4.0 motors (as equipment was quite aged), end of the road 4.0 housings due to end of the road Chrysler equipment.
Yeah, maybe DC saw the end of the 4.0L in the future "Late model TJs" and just ran the equipment. The issue could be with casting/heating/cooling/iron mixture/casting molds.... etc. :p

C), Driver and what he hit in the road that led to a series of events that caused the bosses to bust off!

Jeep lives again. I've had it back for a while now (since about early march I think)

As of Thursday I've got 502 miles on the new motor. I changed the oil once already. Runs good, more power than the original motor.

Looking back, and remembering my original motor, I recall it had been running rough for a while, I just didn't think much of it at the time because it seemed like a minor miss at idle, until it puked the P0305 code up on the mountain back in October and then it really ran like a$$. :evilbat:
Are you driving the rig at all Doug? My rebuild has been going well so far, though I was disappointed with the no power increase that Benny @ Hesco claimed I would gain the motor runs very smooth and I can push it over Brockway coming back from Truckee (very steep hill/mnt).
I drove it running errands today, put about 85 more miles on it. Sure runs smooth.
So have you decided to keep the TJ or trade to a JK? Undecided?

I just reread your post and saw you were driving it, hope all stays well with the rig.
