Brake clips?

1599 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  jciocco
In my 04 parts manual it shows the use of "brake caliper clips" on the front brakes. But my jeep doesn't have them!!! Maybe they were left off some how? I have no clue if they are important or even what they do. I got a hardware kit for my up coming brake job and it includes some new ones which are shown below.

Can any one shed some light on these little things, where they go, what they do, etc

I've never seen anything like that on my front brakes, I have an 04 as well.

I'm sure if my heep had them, I'd have seen them. I've had the calipers, pads and rotors off a few times for cleaning, and don't recall any such device.
They show up in the 06 parts manual as well. I just finished upgrading rotors, and pads, and replacing axles in the rear, so I have had the rotors and pads on and off several times in the last month and never saw anything like that.
looks like a generic anti-rattle clip. keeps the pads tight in the caliper so they dont make noise when no pressure is on the pads
Funny you should post this now. I just did all the brakes on my 04 today and didn't see anything like that. All my parts were from Napa and there wasn't anything included like that.
Well I never seen them on mine either, and I'm the only one that deals with it. So it is obvious they are nothing mandatory.

Eric.... That is what I kind of thought also!
That is a dickfer.

That is really an anti-rattle clip that attaches on the exterior, hub side of the caliper

-edit- an example

I figured you'd seen some sort of clip like that Greg! Your a regular Internet ninja  Thanks man, I figured it was a rattle clip, but I had no clue how it would have been put on the caliper. Hummm.... Wonder how much extra horsepower they will give me :rotflmao:

those clips are for an earlier YJ or CJ brake setup, the pads go in the mount and are held by the clips, they will not fit on a newer brake because the pads mount to the caliper not the mount. They go on each end of the pads not on the outside like the picture.

yup
No extra horsepower for them it is a 4x4, they will help your breakover angle.
