Just got back to town after a busy morning. Our local Jeepers, some members of the San Diego Jeep Club and some JustRuns group members got together to assist the crew from Desert Wildlife Unlimited make some plumbing repairs and haul water out to a drinker in our East desert.
"Today we had a bunch of volunteers come out to assist the Desert Wildlife Unlimited crew repair a Bighorn Sheep drinker out in the east desert. Thank you to the Just Runs volunteers, Rick left San Diego at 3 AM to get to Brawley on time! San Diego Jeep Club also participated. The water level in this drinker was quite low, so DWU had two 1000 gallon trailers and a 500 gallon rig at the staging area south of Hiway 78. David Byrum towed in another 500 gallon tank that Radco provided. We used the smaller tank trailers to haul the water up a steep grade and back in to the unloading area where the water was pumped over 300 feet down to the actual drinker location. The DWU crew worked on repairing the drinker plumbing and catchment dam while the Jeepers transferred the water and hauled it to the site. Thank you Marvin, Joy, Otis, David, Amy, John, Rick. Plus thanks to the great guys with Desert Wildlife Unlimited, temps were hitting 100 degrees+ and they accomplished a lot. A lot of work! But the population of Bighorn in this area will have water for some time, at least until the next rain replenishes the water."

We needed to get this done before temps got high this summer. DWU guys did a lot of shoveling. An LJR will haul a fully loaded 500 gallon tank trailer up a pretty steep, rocky and rough trail if you engage both lockers!:grin2:

Wow! Isn't water five or six pounds per gallon?

Not only is the weight an issue, but the fact that it isn't a static weight.

Unless the water is completely filled to the very top of the tank the weight will shift front to back as well as side to side when riding on anything but level terrain. Any increase or decrease in momentum will also affect the stability of the load.
Also, there is the weight of the trailer itself.

We ran deuce and a half's for brush trucks (similar to the one below) with baffled tanks and the difference between a half tank of water and an empty tank was noticeable.

Not trying to be negative, just the opposite, very impressive.

Great work for a worthy cause.

4100 lbs of water plus the weight of the trailer, I wouldn't want to be pulling it down the hiway! I was in low range, 2nd gear. Ya'll are right about the weight transference. No sloshing effect if the tank is full to the top.
