Anyone care to enlighten me? What does "backspacing" mean and why is it important?

When increasing the width of your rims, a rule of thumb is that you should
reduce your backspacing by half of the width increase. So, if you go from
15x7 to 15x8 inches, the difference is 1 inch, the BackSpacing reduction should be1/2 inch. That way, you keep the weight of the tire and wheel in the samelocation versus the bearings, and also, you compensate for the increase intire width, therefore reducing the chance of rubbing. :wink:
