im going to start with 33's and new rims, but might possibly move to 35's if i buy a set of rims now for the 33's will the backspacing still be correct for a 35? and what would the backspacing be? 4"? looking at the craigar 397 series.

First I'll assume you want a 12.5" wide tire. 4" Backspacing will clear 33's on 15x8 or 16x8 rims without needing washers for steering stops. On 35's, 4" backspacing may or may not be enough (works for some people, doesn't for others). 3-5/8 will definitely clear 12 inch wide 35's.

the tires i am looking at are the Trxus.
33's- 33x12.7
35's- 34.9x13
only a bit of difference. if i went with a 4" backspacing and rubbed a few washers could fix it correct?

Actually you'll want 3.75" backspacing.

4" is a bit too deep and you'd rub slightly.

I have 3.75" backspacing and I get just the tiniest bit of rub on my anti-sway-bar when it's disconnected and tucked up near the frame. I'm running the 33x12.5 r15 TrXus also.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a similar question. I'm going to run 37x12.50.17's MT/Rs on 17x9 wheels. I'm also doing the Warn hub conversion which will space the hub out 3/4". I have a Currie anti-rock to throw on also. Any ideas as to what backspacing I should run? 3.5"?

Just out of curiosity... why 17's? You lose sidewall...

Apparently there is a growing number in the competition arena running the 37s on 17s. Maybe a little less flex has an advantge at that size. The available sidewall would be the same as 35 on a 15 rim, so I'm not sure I would be all that concerned. Should be a mean looking rig. :D

With the 17's you do lose a little sidewall, but as mentioned by mrladewig, it's equivelant to 35's on 15 inch rims. Also, the shorter sidewall will provide better handling on road as apposed to 15's.

Anyone come up with some backspacing numbers for me yet?

I am running the TrXus 33x12.50 on 15 inch wheels with 3.75 inch back spacing. I like the look, and can move to 35's if I want to.
