I have a 2003 Rubicon which I purchased new on the dealer's lot in June, 2003. The driver's door sticker says it was assembled in May, 2003. The last six digits of the VIN are 373018.

What month did the Rubicons go into production, and what number was mine coming off the Rubicon assembly line?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to ROF.
I don’t have any special knowledge, but after looking at a VIN decoder, I would say that the first vehicle off the line would be “000001.” Yours seems to be “373018.”

Thank for your reply. It seems sensible, except as Rubicons go, there were 16,000 made for 2003. For total Wranglers, there were 82,156 made. So, the 373,000 doesn't seem to work.

This would be a great question for an engineer at the assembly plant, don't know if we have anyone in that capacity here. I can tell you that I attended the Paragon Jeep Jamboree in July 2002 and we had a brand new Rubicon there. It was actually sent to a writer for an offroad magazine I believe and he was sent to the jamboree to test it out. Don't know if it was an actual production model for sale or not.

I used to have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee that was actually made in September 1998. So maybe new model year production starts then. Also look at your VIN label on the A pillar. It will have a MDH code, numbers refer to month, day and hour of production. I'm not sure VIN's actually come down the assembly line in sequential order.

I purchased my First Rubicon in November 2002
The door jamb sticker said it rolled off the line in August 2002 which I believe was the first month of production.

I do not believe they reset the last 6 to zero each year, since my 2 06 Rubis are 742000 and 767000 and I do not see 400k wranglers in 3 years, the numbers may not be sequential or may include other vehicles.

Evidently the VIN decoder I found was not accurate for whatever reason. Just in our small sample alone, there’s a number lessening from 2004 to the one 2006 example.
Taken from above…
2003 - 373018
2004 - 749047
2006 - 742***
2006 - 767***
