Looking to purchase my first ever jeep and two options look promising
stock 03 rubicon new or slightly used
:?: or :?:
03 rubicon with less than 1K miles that has a 2" lift
Taking a vote? Hope to make my decision by the weekend.
This will by my first true 4x4
Living in the UP of Michigan
I just keep driving past places I want to go that my 4x2 pick up won't allow me to explore.
I'm not sure how much serious off road I will do, I just want to be able to investigae places and get back out again.

Thanks,

I say buy new and fix it up the wau you want. Unless you are really saving a lot of money.

I would just rather have a brand new one.

I bought mine used. It had 123 miles on it. Some kind of fluke but it was through our local jeep dealer. I just put a 2 inch lift in it and I love the way it sits now. I have done the locker bypass, cb radio, towbar, Hilift jack and I am in the process of building a winch bumper and installing my winch. Hope friday will finish this up. I plan to stay with 31 tires and not go over to the dark side. My bumper that I am building will store my tow chain and straps. Whatever you decide to do you will love the rubi.

Bought mine new and immediatley slapped a 2" lift on it. Any car that has under 1000 miles still at the dealer was probably not owned and harmed. If you are buying it from someone find out why they are selling it. Cost is always a factor but a 2" lift will only run you 250 bucks w/ shocks so average that in. My Rubi runs better now with 3000 miles than when it was 13 miles. Breakin period is over at 1500 or so. Look at the options too. If the used has what you want at a good price go for it. If the new comes with stuff you really dont care for or need go used vice versa also. My 2000 sport was pretty loaded and my Rubi is basically stripped (except for cd, speaker package and tint windows) and is less on the payment than the 2000. I'm sure financing now has a lot to do with it but the mods are coming faster also so I wont complain one bit. Weigh it all out then decide. Oh yeah color should not be an issue- The Jeep is awesome no matter what shade of the rainbow its in.

As said earlier it's nice to start with stock and see the build up.But if it's major coin you will be saving then go for the used.

Well if you plan on doing a 2" lift , you may as well get the one that has it on it.

If you buy new you know what you have. If you buy used and it's stock and clean then chances are that you are gonna be okay. If it's lifted with big tires.... well... lets just say it's experienced. It's your money, do what you feel comfortable with.

I have already identified myself a shamelessly cautious and conservative, but last week in Colorado, where over 90% of the vehicles on the trails were Wranglers, I started getting the lift itch!

and the winner is...

Thank's all for the input...
03 Stock Rubicon Patriot Blue off the lot was the final winner
Lower interest rate makes total cost lower for new then used
Also, liked the idea of starting fresh and putting mods where
I need them for my style of driving.
Should pick up the truck next week.
Local jeep dealer no help so I have to drive 200 miles to a good one.

And if you need suggestions to empty your check book
Jerry and I can have you broke in less than a week.
But we will ensure that you are one happy homeless Rubi owner
:)

And 4x4Mac can help you out with setting up your Rubi for 35s.
I think he might be going for 37s before the end of the year.
