Some fast, some high, some low, and some lemonized. Point being, with all of the various mods I have done, the Jeep has always been the most rewarding to my soul. (<-- sorry for biblical reference to you atheists )

The biggest problem I have encountered is the fuel mileage. I have a 85 mile round trip commute to work. I cant afford to drive the Jeep everyday. God knows i want too, but it just takes sooo much fuel. So, ECONOMY.

Thats 1 problem. Heres why. You will buy a jeep, you will love it. You will find yourself thinking about mods in bed at night. Doing different things to it to satisfy your need of off-road. You will aimlessly stare at page after page of forums and websites requiring your paychecks. Your wife will begin to question your integrity in your MARRIAGE. Thats the 2nd one.

Back to economy. You will never want to be out of the seat of your rig, making the commute costly. And wear on parts costly. If you are lucky, you will have a good off-road shop between work and home where you can make friends and stop every other day for coffee and BS. That relationship you are building will save you money down the road (thats the story I gave my wife- she didnt buy it)

But no other rig will give you the satisfaction of trail-riding with no roof, doors, and the feel of a cool breeze shooting up your pants leg.

AGREE!! They used to option a V8, but stopped for some reason. I actually think a V8 would get better mileage than beating the lil 6 to death.

Rand My first Jeep 1978 Renegade: worst problem RUST
My Second Jeep 1987 Wrangler: worst problem Tranny (Peugeot)
My third Jeep 2005 Rubicon: worst problem -Getting dealer to fix problems-

Front drive shaft less than 36K -- would not fix (Stopped going to this dealer)

Jeep lost power under hard acceleration --- Took 3 tries to fix
(But they DID get it fixed, and it was at the new dealership)

New dealership also replaced catalytic converter -- YaY!

I think the biggest problem with any and all stock jeeps is that they are stock and haven't been wheeled hard yet!

Front axle seals for me, was told that it's a common problem with the Jeeps. Installed some of those axle tube seals that mount near the U-joints to avoid water and debris getting in there and eating the seals.

Other that that just make sure you climb under it and give it a good once over, check for the usual rock rash on all the skids, diffs, control arms&mounts, ect.

I spent the $150 for a professional vehicle inspection before I bought mine, but still give it a good once over. The inspector missed that the rear locker wasn't engaging. Thankfully it turned out to be a cracked hose(dry-rot) on the differential and air pump. Cut off an inch of hose on both ends and stuck em back on; worked like a champ after that.

I'd check the top real well also, since those are pricey when you have to replace it.
