 Jeep shops in Memphis, TN??
I just moved to Memphis and I'm looking for a reputable shop to do some work on my Jeep. Anyone know of some shops in the area?? Thanks!

4 wheel parts is located off of Covington Pike and I - 240. That's where I had some of my work done.

4 wheel parts is ok........but by far not Jeep specialists. I have had some work done by them and they are marginal at best. I know a manager there (Elliot) and at least he spares me the "buy pro comp" routine. They installed my control arms upside down so the zerk fittings were pointing down....... would have made it real easy to rip them right off. The other places are adventure off road by I think mt. Moriah and last I heard Walls 4x4 burnt down. What you really need to ask yourself is how you ended up in memphrica and you should buy a gun and leave as soon as possible. :p

Yup, John Walls burnt to the ground, doesn't look like they were able to save anything. I haven't run across any other places here, I just do my own work in my garage with parts ordered from Dave at Northridge 4x4.
I've dealt with 4 Wheel Parts twice, and won't go there again. First time I stopped in and told them I was new in town and asked where the wheelin' places were. The two mutts behind the counter looked at me with vapid expressions on their faces, and finally said there wasn't any. Second time I went in to get a Bestop header for a bikini a friend had given me. Even with the bikini in hand to show them, they managed to sell me the wrong part. They were good about the return though.
The nearest decent wheelin' spot is probably Superlift ORV in Hot Springs, AR. It's about 3 hours away, $25 a day, and $5 for a camping spot. Nice place with lots of variety in trails, but I miss the desert where it's free and close.
For dealer work, I had one issue with my intermediate steering shaft that I took to Wolfchase Chrysler/Jeep, and they didn't say anything about all my mods. Seemed like good folks, but the parts counter guy is dumb as a mud fence. He'll get you the parts you ask for, but can't seem to find anything without a lot af assistance from you.
Welcome to Memphis,
Mark

Holy hell.. didn't know we had this many jeepers here in Memphis!
YOu guys been out to Callis Cutoff lately? Apparently the owner is finally starting to crack down on people going back there. How are the bottoms right now? What other trails/riding areas are nearby?
I've heard about the superlift ORV Park but I'm wondering how tough the riding is out there. I'm not looking to go mudbogging but my rig is pretty much stock right now (but with 31's and armored up) and I didn't know if It could hang out there....
Thanks

I haven't been to the bottoms, I'm not a fan of mud. I haven't found any other places yet.

I worked in Memphis for 7 or 8 months consulting for your favorite purple/orange company. I have to say that I was usually pretty happy when it was Thursday night and I could go home. I missed the mountains and dry air.
A couple good things though are that there are lots of jobs in Memphis and that most folks are pretty friendly.
I didn't have my jeep out there, so I don't know who could work on it for you, but I hope that you enjoy it.
And get down to Olive Branch and have dinner at the catfish company down there. Good stuff.

4 - wheel parts is under new management now. They fired Elliot and everyone else except for Ian who works in the shop and brought in people from their other locations out West.

You can also go north and hit Turkey Bay over at Land Between The Lakes. It's about a 4 to 5 hour drive. Good park and a lot of other stuff to do while you're in the area.

The only reason I moved here is because my wife is attending UT medical school to become a pharmacists. I live in Cordova which really isn't a bad area but I thought they would at least have a good off-road shop here considering the size of the city.

Chilijeep,
Do you have a blue rubi? Have you occasionally seen a blue Jeep about six in the morning at Hwy 64 and Houston Levy? If so, that's me.

There is nothing close to Memphis that is challenging with the exception of a lot of muddy trails, i.e. the Bottoms down at Wolf River. I avoid mud when possible so I don't those areas. There are also some trails about 2 hours east off of I-40 and there are numerous private areas south in MS.

If your looking for rocks, Hot Springs, Arkansas is about the closest. It's about a 3 hour drive, but it's worth it.

No, I take Germantown Rd. to I-40 to go to work in the morning. I've seen quite a few lifted TJ's around here though. They all must be going somewhere.

By the way, I need to get my Jeep aligned soon. Any suggestions on where to get it done? One place wanted $80 just because it is lifted. Is that what I should expect??

Before they burnt down, John Walls 4x4 recommended Gateway Tire on Hwy 64 east, just before Houston Levy. He told me to talk to Matt. I do my own in my driveway, it doesn't take long, setting the toe is easy, and you shouldn't have to mess with the upper arms much once you have those set. Since I do my own, I don't know what they'll charge.

Well, I used to do my own in my garage but we're in a apertment now and don't have a lot of room. I've kinda been busy with work as well and would just rather have someone else do it. Thanks for the info.

Gateway is the place I went to that wanted between 60 and 80 bucks for the job just because it is lifted.

I've taken my car to A few different Gateway's around town but they never seem to do a good job. Personally I avoid them at all costs.
My last alighnment was a Zellners (I think that's how you spell it) It's right across from the Gold Club on Summer and WhiteStation.
We haven't taken the Rubi for an alighnment yet.
fyathyrio,
I think I've seen you around a couple times. I remember a nice jacked up Rubi on Stage in front of the Wallyworld by Wolfechase a few months back.

Try Stiggler Alignment on National. Don't know how he'll treat a lifted Jeep, but Glen is a good guy.

I use Firestone on poplar in collierville. Michael is the guy I talk to... he's been taking care of our family's cars for years. I believe I paid $100-something for lifetime alignment. I get my oil changed there and get my ride aligned/balanced/rotated every oil change (typically $20 total for everything).
What I'm looking for is somewhere with a nice network of trails to explore.. some light rocks... some light mud... but mostly just trails through the woods. Not sure where the best place to find that is...
Will probably be heading out to the Bottoms sometime in the next week or two with a couple buddies (semi-stock Rubicon on 32s and jacked up blazer on 33" swampers). Apparently they know of a few areas that aren't too bad... some decent trails without too much mudbogging.

I just remembered, there's a Goodyear Gemini just off Stage Rd in Bartlett that I stopped in last winter to get an alignment. The manager there was very cool and told me his machine wouldn't pick up my angles accurately and didn't do the alignment, no charge either. I thought it was cool that they were honest, they could have easily fiddled underneath a bit and sent me on my way with a lighter wallet.
Just looked them up, Bryant Tire and Auto. Nice to know there's an honest shop out there still, but it doesn't help with the alignment tho...
msavard, I like your sig! I do also!
FuLcRuM, If it was dirty and running topless, it was probably me.

$100 for a lifetime alignment sounds pretty good. Collierville is a bit outa the way for me but that might be worth it.
I do all the oil changes for both my car and the Jeep since I like to use Synthetic.
fyathyrio, It was definitly dirty and topless.
What I need is someone with a welder, I am constanly getting parts welded on my car.
Also if you guys without Garages want to work on your rigs I can offer up mine for use. I know what it's like to not have anywhere to go. We just had our house built a year ago and I had them extend the 2 car garage by 4ft to help make room for the car and tools.
I even had room to pull the engine from my car with the door closed. It's still only a 7ft door so if you have a lift it wont fit.

I would call them first to be sure.. there are many firestones around the country and around town.. they all honor the lifetime deal I think. the $100 might have been a special... call to get the price. I know there is also a firestone at park/mt moriah as well.... though I prefer the staff at the C'ville location.
We really should all get together for a wheeling run one time... seems there are a ton of us in Memphis. My wheeling buddy has a nice 02 rubi running on 32s. We hit callis on occaition.... are consideirng a run to the bottoms this weekend or next.
