2005 Rubicon

I'm very new to Jeeps, haven't even purchased one just yet. I just found a 2005 with under 35k miles on her, automatic, 33in tires and beautiful. The issue is the windshield sticker says upon inspection the front axle was found to be a D30 with Detroit TruTrac locker... It's supposed to be a D44 I know but isn't the TruTrac a limited slip locker??? How would this work in unison with the D44 stock locker??? Or should I steer clear of this rig???

Welcome to ROF!

Keep looking, somebody for some reason pulled the D40 and installed a D30 -or- it's really not a Rubicon. One digit in the VIN number will indicate if it is really a Rubicon or a fake. Search here for that info (I forgot, sorry.) And you really don't want a Detroit locker (apologies to the Detroit fan-boys.)

The sixth character in the VIN should be a"6" for a Rubicon from the factory.

I'm not too worried about it other than the fact it's not a D44 but wondering how the lockers will work together or not at all? I've never had lockers other than in my 4Runner stock Diff Lock...

I think it should be 5K less if not a rubi 44 up front. Thats about what it would cost to put one the same or better in it.

We can talk about a 30 vs rubi 44, but at the end of the day I would not buy one will less of an axle unless it was a great price.

I totally agree on the price drop and I'm working on it. So basically my front locker button wouldn't do anything with a trutrac up front correct? Since it's basically an automatic locker??? When I test drove it I couldn't get the front locker light to stay steady (kept blinking) at that time I didn't know what the TruTrac was.

Locker switch will not serve any purpose in the front with no oem locker, which is engaged by air pressure. Without the oem locker, the light will just continue to blink, as there is nothing there to 'lock'.

There is no reason the front Trutrac won't work with your rear locker, it's just not a selectable locker like the Rubicon came with. You will have to decide if that's a deal breaker. Sort of like a Rubicon with an asterisk.

If they changed the front axle assembly, what transfer case is in it?
